Developers are threatening the cherished green wedges between many villages in North East Lincolnshire.

Developers are threatening the integrity of the strategic green spaces between the villages of Humberston, Waltham and New Waltham because of a lack of up-to-date local planning policies. Changes in government planning guidance has meant that the Council is left with very little defence against large-scale greenfield proposals. The Local Plan was adopted in 2003 and has been superceded by the National Planning Polciy Framework (NPPF) which gives priority to development over countryside protection.

North East Lincolnshire Council has set a target of 2017 to produce a new Local Plan but in the meantime, many of the historically protected green wedges are under threat. CPRE is very concerned about the imapct this delay will have on maintaining the separation between the villages and the urban area of Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
